Multifunctional I-Beams

Spring 2019 • UNCSA’s The Hairy Ape

Built to both mimic the look and design of a steel I-Beam. Along with, being able to withstand being stood on in any direction, be beaten on by shovels, violently flipped over, and to be carried or slid by actors onstage. Fabricated out of 1/2” birch plywood in a hollow core, stress skin design with the center structure slotting into the top and bottom units for maximum structural advantage. Finished with a base coat of aluminium oil paint and a sealer of polycrylic for strength and elasticity.
